BLUE ROCK THRUSH (Monticola solitarius) (See images below)
The photos below were taken on Sakurajima, a volcanic peninsula (formerly an island) off Kagoshima, on the south west side of Kyushu Island. This region has a sub-tropical climate. The blue rock thrush is considered as a ‘chat’, part of the category of the Old World flycatchers. The bird is about 9 inches long, and has bright blue plumage with a dark orange underside. It is omnivorous, and nests in rock cavities in mountainous areas, which is precisely the type of environment where the bird below was photographed and filmed.

The bird filmed below was feeding on berries but was getting distracted by another bird passing by:
