DUSKY MOORHEN

DUSKY MOORHEN (Gallinula tenebrosa) – (See images below)
Moorhens (and coots) are part of the rail family and are found in Australia, New Guinea, and Indonesia. They are water birds but with chicken legs instead of duck legs. In other words, they don’t have webbed feet like aquatic birds. This enables them to easily walk on the ground in addition to swimming well. Dusky moorhens are about 1.3 feet long and found in freshwater marshes. They are omnivorous, i.e. eat plants as well as animals. The two sexes are similar.
