RUFOUS-TAILED WEAVER (Histurgops ruficauda) – (See images below)
The Rufous-tailed Weaver is endemic to Tanzania. Its plumage differs from more colorful weavers – it is mainly brown all over, with a ‘scaly’ pattern of white edges. The bill is brown on top and sometimes yellow for the lower mandible. The legs are dark brown. They eat seeds and insects and nest in colonies in trees.
Weaver birds are a passerine family thus named due to their habit of ‘weaving’ their nests from vegetation. Most of them are found in Africa south of the Sahara.
